Shortly after news broke that Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck, Lopez’s ex-fiancé Alex Rodriguez shared a quote on social media that many believe was directed towards the “Jenny From The Block” singer.
On August 20, a day that many noted as significant as it was the couple’s anniversary, Lopez filed for divorce from her husband of two years. As rumors began circulating about the couple’s relationship almost as soon as “Bennifer” reunited, their separation was a surprise to almost no one, especially JLo’s ex, Alex Rodriguez.
“You either go one way or the other, you might as well be the one deciding the direction,” it read.
It is unclear who the message was directed to, though a source told People it “has nothing to do” with JLo. Even if it doesn’t it’s extremely coincidental.
Lopez and Rodriquez began dating in 2017, got engaged in 2019, and split in April 2021.
“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects,” they said in a joint statement at the time. “We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have is to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”
Not long after her separation from ARod, Lopez was spotted getting comfortable again with Affleck.
The couple, who were previously together from 2002 to 2004, got married in a surprise wedding held in Las Vegas in 2022. Approximately one month later they held a wedding for family and friends at a Georgia mansion that Affleck first purchased when the pair first started dating 20 years earlier.
Although everyone wanted to see Bennifer make it, rumors about trouble in paradise began swirling in May 2024 after the couple hadn’t been seen together in public for nearly 50 days.
At the end of June, Affleck reportedly moved all of his belongings out of the house the couple shared. The icing on the cake was when he didn’t attend Lopez’s birthday party on July 2.
In August, sources claimed it had been “weeks” since the two saw each other and had already begun “moving on separately.” On August 20, news broke that Lopez had filed for divorce.
