There is a big difference between being tired of your job and being tired while you are working on your job. I think that all of us have been tired of our job at one time or another, but very few of us know the feeling of truly being exhausted in our jobs.
Sometimes, we just need to stand back and consider the other professions out there that put their lives on the line and do so for an extended amount of time. It is a challenge, both physically and mentally and they do those hazardous jobs without complaining.
One of the jobs that puts people in such a situation is a firefighter. Many of them don’t get the credit for what they do each and every shift, regardless of whether they are fighting a forest fire or taking care of emergencies around town. It can sometimes push you to the limit.
Not everybody can handle the job and some who have tried it were not able to stick with it. There are others, however, who would gladly push the limit and do what they can to help others in the process.
One of the more dangerous tasks that a firefighter may have to do is handling a forest fire. People will flee from the area as soon as they occur but firefighters run in that direction. They work tirelessly to stop the advance of the fires, saving lives and property in the process.
When forest fires were raging in Portugal, some 1,150 firefighters were enlisted to help slow down the progress. Many of the photographs that came from that fire showed the seriousness of the scene.
Pedro Brás captured one of those pictures, saying: “After a night and a day fighting the Góis Forest Fire we were entitled to 25 minutes of river beach, although it was covered by smoke.”
It showed a group of firefighters asleep on a lawn, overcome by exhaustion after working for 24 hours nonstop. It was a 25-minute break that allowed them to at least get some refreshment before they were back to work again.
