The British royal family remained completely silent on Meghan’s birthday on August 4. From King Charles III to William and Kate, no one posted any birthday wishes for Prince Harry’s wife. They also did not send a message to Meghan on her 42nd birthday last year.
Palace aides say they only celebrate the birthdays of working royals on official social media accounts, a departure from what royals have done in the past.
Harry and Meghan stepped down from their senior royal roles in January 2020. But William and Kate shared a birthday message to Meghan with their millions of followers on social network X (formerly Twitter) when the Duchess of Sussex turned 41. The Welsh family’s greeting was posted at 9am on August 4, 2022, with a photo of Meghan wearing white during her visit to the UK to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II ‘s platinum jubilee .
Charles, then the Prince of Wales, and Camilla, then the Duchess of Cornwall, also sent birthday wishes to their daughter-in-law on social media despite her bombshell interview with Oprah about her royal experiences.
However, in recent months, the relationship between the Sussexes and the royal family is said to be extremely tense. Meghan did not attend the coronation of King Charles III in May 2023. Although Harry was present, he sat far away from senior members of the family. Harry also returned to London in May this year to attend the Invictus Games event but did not meet his father because “the king was busy”.
