Chilling Five Words Wife Said To Husband Before Allegedly Fatally Shooting Him

A woman charged with shooting and killing her husband is said to have left him with five distressing final words.

According to the arrest affidavit obtained by the New York Post, 35-year-old Melissa Calumpit of Idaho, US, allegedly told her twice-estranged husband Travis Haywood Calumpit to meet her on July 12 in order to mend their relationship.

The 37-year-old wife claimed to police that she had been married to Travis from 2010 to 2018 and that the two of them had two children (although the GoFundMe claims the couple had three).

In 2020, Melissa and Travis remarried.

Travis was discovered face-down at a 60-acre campsite close to the Oregon border on July 12th, with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Melissa reportedly got assistance from her mother Rosalie Lynn Morris, 59, in coming up with a plan to take Travis to a remote area where she would kill him.

However, Melissa was alleged to have made contradictory and personal remarks to police after they spoke over the phone.

“Her story changed multiple times,” according to the probable cause document that People was able to access.

“She ultimately said she had the .380 pistol in her pocket, hit Travis in the head with a rock, and shot him when he charged at her.”

“She said she searched for an unregistered firearm to use in the murder and planned to do it herself; however, Melissa wanted to come along.”

“Rosalie believed Melissa killed Travis so that Rosalie would not get in trouble.”

Melissa, however, denied any connection.

“Rosalie described Travis as an abusive, drug addict with mental health issues,” police said.

“Rosalie said she decided she had to kill Travis and compared it to putting a dog down to save livestock.”

Furthermore, records allege that Melissa provided her dying spouse five final words.

“Melissa said after she shot Travis he asked her ‘Why?’” the documents allege. “I’m sorry. I love you.”

According to the affidavit, Melissa said she moved out of the family home “because Travis was physically abusing the children” and instructed him to meet her “to inform him of her intent to divorce him.”

“Rosalie said Melissa told her Travis was bending down, grabbing phones, and Melissa hit him with a rock and, ‘knocked him silly,'” according to Morris’ affidavit.

“Rosalie said Melissa told her Travis lunged at her and she shot him one time in the chest,” states the affidavit.

Rosalie faces charges of aiding and abetting in both first-degree murder and the destruction, alteration, or hiding of evidence, while Melissa faces charges of first-degree murder and destruction, modification, or concealment of evidence.

According to Idaho News, the two are being held on a $2 million (£1.5 million) bond at the moment.

Since then, a GoFundMe has been established to support Melissa and Travis’ kids.
