Back in late 2017, Drew shocked medical professionals by waking from a coma he entered after a serious motorcycle accident in Florida, just days before his 23rd birthday.
The crash was severe; he lost his helmet and a shoe, and sustained a traumatic brain injury, two impaled lungs, and multiple fractures including his shoulder, pelvis, and ribs among other injuries.
Initially, doctors at the hospital believed Drew was brain dead and would never walk or talk again.
His mother, Yolanda Osborne-Kohn, shared with First Coast News that the medical team had considered organ donation, but she held on to hope and refused.
She didn’t want to give up on her son and believed strongly in his recovery.
Drew remained in a coma for five months under medical care before he was moved to his mother’s home.
Against all odds, Drew showed the first signs of life 244 days after the accident by waking up and reassuring his mom that he was ‘okay’.
However, his journey came to a tragic end on Friday (27 July) when he was hit by a pickup truck around 5:30 am local time.
According to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, the driver involved did not see Drew on the road but stopped immediately to call 911 after the accident.
