According to the arrest affidavit obtained by the New York Post, 35-year-old Melissa Calumpit of Idaho, US, allegedly told her twice-estranged husband Travis Haywood Calumpit to meet her on July 12 in order to mend their relationship.
In 2020, Melissa and Travis remarried.
Travis was discovered face-down at a 60-acre campsite close to the Oregon border on July 12th, with a gunshot wound to his chest.
Melissa reportedly got assistance from her mother Rosalie Lynn Morris, 59, in coming up with a plan to take Travis to a remote area where she would kill him.
However, Melissa was alleged to have made contradictory and personal remarks to police after they spoke over the phone.
“Her story changed multiple times,” according to the probable cause document that People was able to access.
“She ultimately said she had the .380 pistol in her pocket, hit Travis in the head with a rock, and shot him when he charged at her.”
“Rosalie believed Melissa killed Travis so that Rosalie would not get in trouble.”
Melissa, however, denied any connection.
“Rosalie said she decided she had to kill Travis and compared it to putting a dog down to save livestock.”
“Melissa said after she shot Travis he asked her ‘Why?’” the documents allege. “I’m sorry. I love you.”
According to the affidavit, Melissa said she moved out of the family home “because Travis was physically abusing the children” and instructed him to meet her “to inform him of her intent to divorce him.”

“Rosalie said Melissa told her Travis lunged at her and she shot him one time in the chest,” states the affidavit.
According to Idaho News, the two are being held on a $2 million (£1.5 million) bond at the moment.
Since then, a GoFundMe has been established to support Melissa and Travis’ kids.
