NFL reporter Doug Kyed has revealed that his two-year-old daughter has passed away, nine months following her heartbreaking leukemia diagnosis.
As per reports,Ā little Hallie Kyed was dealt the shocking blow in April 2023. Her father Doug, who works for the Boston Herald, shared on Instagram that his daughter had lost her fight on January 2021.
Kyed revealed that things had taken a turn for the worse after Hallie relapsed following a bone marrow transplant.
āHallie died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday morning as Jen and I held her hands in bed,āĀ Doug wrote.Ā āWeāre completely lost and heartbroken without Hallie. Our lives will never be the same.ā
Following Hallieās relapse, Doug wrote that the family was trying to stay positive despite the obvious obstacles in his daughterās path.
āIām choosing to stay positive,āĀ the reporter said at the time.
āHallie has beaten every single obstacle that AML has thrown her so far. This will absolutely be her toughest test, but if anyone can topple it, itās our fierce little Hallie Bear.ā
Even so, Doug admitted they thatĀ āknew the prognosis was poor when she relapsed after her bone marrow transplant, so the whole family spent special time at the hospital last week, but we held out hope for remission because of how brave, strong and resilient Hallie had been through her entire nine-month battle with acute myeloid leukemia and all of its complications.āĀ
As per theĀ American Cancer Society, acute myeloid leukemia starts in the bone marrow but moves quickly into the blood. Thereafter it can spread to the lymph nodes, the liver, the spleen and central nervous system.
Speaking to the Boston Herald, Doug said that he had spent almost half his nights at Bostonās Children Hospital since his daughterās diagnosis last year.
āMy wife and I have switched off between caring for Hallie and our 5-year-old, Olivia, at home,ā he explained.
Dougās wife Jen, meanwhile, described the feeling of losing her daughter as having a hole in her heart.
āThere is a giant hole in my heart and the pain is excruciating,ā Jen Kyed shared. āI will never understand why or how something so horrible can happen.ā
Rest in peace, Hallie.
