A cargo plane that crashed in Greece on Saturday evening. Unfortunately, eight people died in this tragedy.
The plane that crashed was an Antonov An-12.
During the day of Saturday, it had taken off from the Serbian city of Nis and was heading for the Jordanian capital Amman.
According to the first reports, the pilot would have requested permission to make an emergency landing in Kavala, northeastern Greece, due to engine problems
In which area did the plane crash?
The plane eventually crashed near the village of Paleochori, in an uninhabited area. It is about 40 kilometers from the airport.
There were eight people on board. Unfortunately, none of them survived the accident.
According to some sources, the plane was carrying weapons and/or ammunition for Ukraine. Witnesses reported hearing several explosions shortly after the crash.
The area was immediately evacuated
Initially, the fire brigade and emergency services intervened on the spot. After a few moments, they withdrew awaiting the arrival of special teams.
Two rescuers were transported to the hospital due to respiratory problems. Also, all those present were ordered to leave the area immediately.
